BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Uber drivers in the Boston area can now make money selling snacks and convenience items to passengers thanks to a partnership between the ride share service and the company Cargo.

The partnership between the companies expanded into our area Wednesday.

Kenny Liao with Cargo tells WBZ NewsRadio's Carl Stevens the drivers can pick up exclusive Cargo boxes for free.

"It's fully loaded with a number of different items including snacks, candy, beauty products," Liao said.

Liao said drivers in other parts of the country love working with Cargo.

"Drivers are able to earn extra income, and they provide a better experience for their riders," he said. "They give riders convenient, on-the-go items, it opens up conversations between the drivers and riders, and it helps drive better ratings for the drivers."

According to a release about the partnership, drivers can earn an extra $300 each month with the partnership.

Any drivers interested in the program can pick up their free Cargo box at the Uber Greenlight Hub on Route 1 in Saugus.
