AMHERST, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Last year, because of Covid-19, there were not a lot of students on campus at UMass Amherst but this year there's a huge demand for on-campus housing.
School officials say the demand this upcoming school year is even higher than usual. UMass Amherst has a lot of on-campus housing with about 13,000 beds.
But school officials say it won't be easy finding one this year. Ed Blaguszewski, spokesman for UMass Amherst, said it looks like they'll be at full capacity for the fall.
"Many students who have missed the first-year experience over the last year and a half or so, are wanting to have that on campus experience as well as our new freshmen," said Blaguszewski.

That combination creates a lot of demand for those beds among the approximately 22,000 under graduates.
In addition, students must show proof of vaccination if they attend class, regardless of whether they're living on or off-campus.
