BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Students were sheltered-in-place for almost two hours on Thursday at UMass Boston after unconfirmed reports of a shooting on campus.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the reports and caught some students off-guard, like PhD student Matthew.

“We were standing outside, and you know some cops with machine guns came at us, being like ‘Where’s the Dunkin’ Donuts?’ and that was our queue to go back inside and shelter-in-place,” said Matthew.

According to students, UMass was alerting students to avoid several areas around campus.

“There’s a Dunkin' Donuts at campus center, and I guess, at first they were like, at the Kennedy, and then at the dorms, and then we got a text about campus center,” said Matthew.

Despite initial confusion, students were grateful and impressed by the quick response from the police.

“If something really, really, terrible were to happen, I feel secure that the University and the city of Boston would not hold anything back in terms of keeping us safe,” said Matthew.

UMass Boston Police and State Police have reported that there is no ongoing threat, and the incident is still being investigated.
