DURHAM, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Officials at the University of New Hampshire have suspended a fraternity chapter after a student from Whitman, Mass. was found dead on Sunday.
Police in the college town of Durham found the body of missing UNH student Vincenzo "Vinny" Lirosi on Sunday afternoon, after he had gone missing at about 1:00 AM Saturday morning.
In an email to the student community, UNH Dean of Students Michael Blackman said the school's chapter of Sigma Chi had been suspended, according to the UNH student newspaper.
Blackman said Lirosi had been in a fight at a fraternity "gathering" on the same night he went missing. He said the university got in touch with the national headquarters of Sigma Chi and the two parties decided to suspend the UNH chapter, as police complete their investigation.

Blackman stressed in the letter that the suspension wasn't the result of a formal finding or internal investigation.
A "Vigil for Vinny" was held Monday night, with hundreds in attendance. Lirosi had been out drinking with his friends on Friday night before disappearing.
Police said shortly after Lirosi was found that the death was not being treated as suspicious.
State Police helicopters, local drones, and K-9 units searched the town on Sunday, before finding Lirosi's body at about 1:20 PM according to the Town of Durham. Lirosi's body was found by a New England Search and Rescue K-9 team off of Coe Drive.
The manner of death hasn't been determined yet.
Police believe Lirosi was going back to his apartment and took a shortcut home through the woods — he did not have any form of ID or a phone on him at the time.
A GoFundMe for Lirosi's funeral costs has collected about $65,000.
