BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thousands of union members gathered on Monday to rally and march in Boston's Labor Day Parade.

The parade, organized by the Greater Boston Labor Council, kicked off at the State House and ended at Boston City Hall. The route included five labor-historic stops along the way, including the first public school in the United States, BlackRock’s office on State Street, Faneuil Hall, 100 Sudbury Street (the site of the ongoing SEIU 32BJ strike), and the JFK Federal Building.

Governor Maura Healey spoke on her dismay for the Trump administration’s treatment of the working people.

“Donald Trump is not helping America and its workers,” Healey said. “Donald Trump is only helping China and a few of his richest billionaire friends.”

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu also spoke at the event, linking Trump to her election opponent Josh Kraft.

“Today I’m proud to stand with labor in our community holding the line against a billionaire trying to buy an election and buy our city,” Wu said. “His campaign is being bankrolled by the same mega donors who support Donald Trump.”

Other speakers at the event included Senator Ed Markey and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.
