BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 103 and United Way of Massachusetts Bay hosted their third annual cornhole tournament for charity on Saturday.
This event raised money for United Way’s Gratitude Project to help feed families this holiday season.
“Cornhole has actually raised a lot of money over the past at least twelve years up in the Northeast,” one participant told WBZ NewsRadio. “It’s become a really big sport, and it’s a great fundraiser for a lot of local communities.”
The crowd contained a mixture of union workers from Massachusetts and even some from neighboring states.
Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll made the ceremonial first toss alongside United Way Interim President and CEO Daphne Principe-Griffin.
“Let the games began,” Griffin announced as the bag left her hand.
Though the throw did not make it in, the bag did hit the board.
“I think that’s all that matters,” Griffin said.
