LEXINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tennis players in Lexington, Mass. received good news from the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

The USTA announced on Thursday that they have awarded a $55,000 Tennis Venue Services grant to the Town of Lexington. The USTA’s Tennis Venue Services grant program has given more than $16 million in grants to impact tens of thousands of tennis courts since 2005.

“Investing in the development of tennis facilities nationwide, not only fulfills the USTA’s mission of growing the sport of tennis, but also provides the opportunity to enjoy lifelong healthy activity through tennis for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds,” said Craig Morris, Chief Executive, Community Tennis, USTA.

The grant funds will go towards the ongoing reconstruction of the 10 courts at the Center Recreation Complex. The project includes reconstructing the courts with post-tension concrete, new nets, fencing and hitting walls, as well as a shade structure.

The project helps both the tennis players in the community and the Lexington High School tennis teams, who both won Division 1 State Championships in 2023.

“We’re proud to serve as an Executive Ambassador Community and benefit from many of the national and regional initiatives provided through the USTA. This money will allow players of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game of tennis for decades to come,” said or Lexington Director of Recreation and Community Programs Melissa Termine Battite.

The project is expected to be completed in the coming months.
