BURLINGTON, Vt. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The University of Vermont announced a leadership swap for its men's hockey team after the current coach supposedly sent text messages to a student that were out of line.

In a press release Tuesday, UVM said Todd Woodcroft had been relieved of his coaching duties for "inappropriate text messages with a UVM student on multiple occasions that failed to maintain professional boundaries." Officials did not share what was said in those messages, but disclosed that they were the catalyst for the investigation that ultimately led to his leave.

The investigation came from UVM's Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity that was completed earlier in the week.

That same day Director of Athletics Jeff Schulman met with the team to inform them that Steve Wiedler would be stepping in as interim head coach for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

Wiedler has been with the team for some time, having a major hand in UVM's recruitment and development processes.
