Up To 75mph Wind Gusts Expected Monday

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — After a relatively sunny Easter Sunday, residents across the state are expecting high winds and heavy rains throughout Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, winds between 25-35 mph and gusts up to 75 mph are expected in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The region is also expecting heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and the possibility for widespread damage.

"People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches," said a statement from NSW Boston. "If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive."

The National Weather Service said "damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles."

Despite predictions that rain will start earlier in the day, NSW has put out a High Wind Warning for Massachusetts from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
