Update: Girl Injured, Two Arrested After Shooting At South Shore Plaza

BRAINTREE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two men were taken into custody in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager at South Shore Plaza mall on Friday. One of the suspects is being held without bail and is facing multiple charges.

Shoppers and staff went into lockdown inside stores at around 4:45 p.m., as police and SWAT teams responded to calls of shots fired in the area of the Nordstrom store.

Police urged local residents to also shelter-in-place, after two suspects were believed to have fled the scene of the shooting on foot.

Shortly after that warning was issued, both suspects were taken into custody.

Authorities later said the shooting was not random, and it was not an "active shooter situation." The incident is believed to have started with a fight between two groups who were known to each other.

A bystander, identified as a 15-year-old girl, sustained non-life threatening injuries during the shooting and was transported to Boston Medical Center.

The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Jose Rodriguez of Boston, and a 20-year-old male who has now been released from police custody.

Rodriguez is being held without bail on charges of Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery by Discharge of a Firearm, Assault and Battery on a Child with Substantial Injury, Reckless Endangerment of a Child, and multiple firearm charges, according to WCVB.

Braintree police asked anyone with video of the shooting incident to email their office at tips@braintreema.gov
