BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Families gathered at Urban Air Adventure Park in Brockton to celebrate the grand opening of another location of one of the leading indoor adventure parks in the nation. With a line wrapped around the building, parents and their children awaited the opportunity to indulge in activities like laser tag, an indoor zip-line, climbing walls, and more. Tim Sharp, brand president of the Urban Park, hopes that the facility will encourage youth to stay active in a device-obsessed world.
"They're hotwired now to sit in front of a screen. So, by getting them here, we teach them that play is fun. We teach them that there is value in play and using their abilities to test themselves," said Sharp.
Urban Air operates over 400 locations worldwide. Founded in 2011, the organization prides itself on being a safe environment where parents can watch their kids jump, soar, race, climb, and play, all while creating lasting family memories.
"We want them to create memories with their kids and connect and really build that bond with them because kids, they're not around as long as we'd like them to be. They actually grow up and move away," said Sharp. "We want them to have that value together and that experience together."
Ranked as Entrepreneur Magazine's #1 entertainment franchise, Urban Park offers reprieve for parents as well as the kids, providing a much-needed escape from being indoors during inclement weather.
"For me and mom, it's also helpful because they have a lot of energy, we have a place to get them out of the house," said one parent. "And on a rainy day, they can get all that energy burnt off in a healthy way. And it helps our mental wellness all around."
