NORTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fresh off the Team USA win in the President’s Cup, golfer Wyndham Clark stopped by TPC Boston this week, chatting about everything from LIV Golf to next year’s Ryder Cup.
“I ultimately felt like I chose my legacy in the game of golf over making a lot of money,” Clark said.
Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, passed on a deal with LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed golf tour that has offered millions to the game’s top stars.
The golfer said even though LIV Golf offered him “life-changing money,” the tour just wasn't for him.
“LIV Golf has done a lot of great for the PGA tour, obviously we’ve benefitted from the purses as a player,” Clark said. “But ultimately, [I] would rather go and try to win majors and play on Presidents Cup teams and Ryder Cup teams than take a lot of money.”
Clark visited TPC Boston to promote the PGA tour’s only stop in New England, TPC River Highlands in Connecticut.
He said he’s looking forward to next year’s Ryder Cup matches in New York. Team USA’s captain will be New England’s own Keegan Bradley.
“I think Keegan’s gonna be an amazing captain,” Clark said.
The September 2025 match is highly anticipated.
“The fans are gonna be unreal … There’s gonna be 50-60,000 thousand a day, not 20,000, and they’re gonna be rooting hard for Team USA, and maybe even sometimes against us if we don't play good,” Clark said.
