BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Eight-time Grammy winner Usher is being presented with an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music during its commencement next month.

The ceremony is taking place on May 13 at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.

Usher is receiving an honorary Doctor of Music degree.

He’s expanded his career as a performer beyond music into both the small and big screen.

He’s been a judge on NBC’s ‘The Voice’, and played himself in the film ‘Hustlers’.

Usher is releasing his ninth studio album later this year.

Also being honored at the commencement next month: four-time Grammy winner Roberta Flack is receiving an honorary degree along with West African musician and educator Sona Jobarteh.

Following the commencement ceremony in the morning, festivities that night include a concert featuring a cast of more than 200 student vocalists, instrumentalists, dancers, arrangers, and track producers from the graduating class, who will perform a musical tribute to the work of each of the honorees.

Past recipients from the college include Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Ringo Starr, B.B. King, Gloria Estefan, and John Legend.
