FRANKLIN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An artist in Franklin, Mass. switched to a more prominent fire hydrant, after someone vandalized her design.

Graphic designer and artist Kelly Feeherry won a contest to design and paint one of the town's fire hydrants. The self-proclaimed “hippie child” decided to decorate her hydrant in tie-die rainbow colors and 60s silhouette designs.

The day after she painted the fire hydrant, she found it had been covered in red paint.

“The whole vibe of my design is peace and love and happiness, and it’s supposed to bring joy,” said Feeherry. “Waking up to see that I was more sad than anything, thinking about why somebody would do that.”

Fortunately, the town allowed Feeherry to repaint her design in a much more prominent location.

“For something that was really crappy to wake up to, it turned into something really cool,” said Feeherry.
