BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A major internet outage disrupted millions of Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast early Tuesday morning.
Reports of the blackout spiked on Downdetector between midnight and 2 a.m. Most affected areas include Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and D.C.
The outage left customers in the dark in the midst of streaming and working from home.
“You’re getting into a show, and you’re just about to find out who the killer, and it gets dragged,” Charlestown resident Grace, who was not impacted by the outage, told WBZ NewsRadio. “You’re going to be in some trouble.”
Paula, another local resident, said her husband works from home, and this outage would have definitely interrupted his day, adding that going to local coffee shops with free internet access to work remotely is the next best option.
In a statement to WBZ NewsRadio, a Verizon spokesperson said the company’s engineering team restored services as soon as the issue was identified. No word yet on what caused the outages.
