NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A video is going viral after a local driver spots what appears to be a couple completely asleep behind the wheel of a self-driving car on the Mass Pike Sunday.
Dakota Randall shot the video near exit 17 in Newton when it appeared as though the driver was slumped behind the controls of a Tesla, his passenger asleep as well.
To anyone's knowledge this couple arrived safely at their destination but the incident has sparked heated debate online, with comments ranging from angry to humorous.
Some wrote on Twitter that the incident gives Tesla drivers a bad name, because the assisted driving feature is not yet meant to be driver replacement. Others want the technology recalled while others joked that the cockpit must have depressurized.
