Vigil To Be Held Monday In Honor Of 2 Brockton Cousins Who Drowned

BROCKTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A candlelight vigil is set to be held Monday night for two Brockton cousins who drowned over the weekend.

The cousins have been identified as 13-year-old Rafael Andrande and 12-year-old Tiago Depina.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said it appeared the two boys were skipping rocks in shallow water at Waldo Lake at D.W. Field Park in Brockton around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

One of the boys apparently fell into the water, and the other tried to rescue him. Both of the boys went under the water. Family members and witnesses tried to rescue them but were unable to do so. Neither boy knew how to swim.

The vigil will be held on May 17 at 8 p.m. at D.W. Field Park.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral and burial costs. As of noon on Monday, it had raised more than $10,000.
