BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — United Service Organizations organized a massive event at Logan Airport to make holiday care packages for military service members overseas.

According to Rebecca Parkes of the USO, the packages included notes of gratitude along with snacks to give those in the armed services a taste of home during this season.

Parkes also mentioned how an event like this was so important during this time, as the holidays tend to be difficult for those in the service.

"When service members receive them overseas," says Rebecca, "they not only get a little treat, but they also know that someone back home is thinking about them."

This event was in collaboration with Massport and Suffolk Construction for the second year in a row, and members of both companies pitched in on the care package-making assembly lines.

Suffolk Vice President Sam Sleiman said that many volunteers from last year were ecstatic to be back to help again.

"Every one of them came to us and said the sense of pride and sense of fulfillment this event gave them was incredible," added Sleiman.
