WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — When the Silva family bought the 75-acre farm in West Bridgewater last year, they immediately started doing things differently than previous owners.

Vineyard Farm owner Elio Silva, who grew up on a farm in Brazil, said they do not use any pesticides and chemicals in the soil letting it regenerate naturally.

The farm also offers difficult-to-find products such as hard corn used to make flour.

And through the farm, the Silva family is building relationships in the community, especially with the immigrant population.

The farm offers meats and grows vegetables catering to Haitians and Cape Verdians who live in the community.

The farm hosts local school group visits.

Farmhand David Tavares said they grow a wide variety of fresh, healthy vegetables. "We pick everything fresh that day," he said.
