WAKEFIELD, Mass.(WBZ NewsRadio) — There's a plan in Wakefield to help make the town safer for pedestrians and bicycle riders.
The 'Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan' is supported by members of the Wakefield Town Council including Jonathan Chines and has taken about three years to complete.
And now, supporters say the plan is ready for adoption.
The plan includes input from residents who know intimately the various safety 'hot spots' in town.
Liz said she walks her dog Molly around town often and has become very familiar with trouble spots. "I definitely agree with any kind of improvements that will improve safety," she said.
Chines said one of the first groups he met with after getting elected was a group of girl scouts who gave him a list of unsafe areas in town. "These girl scouts were in fourth grade at the time, and they gave me a list of streets where they felt there wasn't sufficient sidewalks, either being in a state of disrepair or they didn't even exist."
Chines said he hopes the plan is adopted at the next council meeting.
