WALPOLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Walpole Police Department announced a new public service that they are offering residents who want to opt out of door-to-door solicitation.
People in Walpole, Mass., can sign up for the “Do Not Knock List” starting this year, and moving forward they can renew their registration before the beginning of each year to continue to have the service.
“If somebody doesn’t want their name on there, they can put their address down. So that just tells people, ‘Look, don’t bother me,’” explained a person in Walpole. Residents can email their name, address and phone number to the Walpole Police if they want to add themselves to the list.
WBZ NewsRadio’s James Rojas spoke with Walpole residents about their thoughts on the new public service option.
“Today is just a different world. People come knocking on your door. And it’s funny, people live in a world where they’re scared now, and they don’t know who [the people at the door] are,” said one resident.
Another person thought that the pandemic might have affected people’s reactions to strangers at their doors. “I think it just has a lot to do probably with post-COVID and stuff like that, or maybe some residual paranoia.”
Certain Walpole residents said they were in favor of the new service. “It sounds pretty good. I mean, no offense, I know people have to go out and try to get business or whatever it is that they’re doing. Just in this day and age, too, it’s kind of weird, people approaching your homes.”
