WALPOLE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — With the potential beginning of the winter storm season approaching, residents have begun to prepare for snow.

Bill from Norwood was at Rocky’s Ace Hardware to prepare for any winter weather before everyone rushes to the stores.

“I’m here to buy some winter products getting ready for any kind of storm during the winter,” Bill said. “I have to buy early because if you wait until the store shows up, there wont be anything here.”

Jimmy, who is one of the managers at this Ace, was quick to assure that they won’t be running out of their stock right away, although he cannot speak with absolute certainty, as stores have been wiped out winter items in past years.

“I have probably close to 40 tons of ice melt here,” he said. “It depends, it’s early, we got a long way to go.”

After working for 20 years at the hardware store, Jimmy said he’s picked up on a pattern that occurs this time of year.

“Every year, the first storm of the year, people tend to be unprepared. They don’t have ice melt at the house, and you wonder sometimes if anyone owns a shovel.”

He also explained that another big item purchased along with the typical shovels, space heaters, candles, batteries and scrapers is roof rakes.

“We can expect to sell roof rakes to clean off the roof to avoid ice dams,” he said.
