WALTHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mobar Cuts in Waltham is giving back to the younger generation in the form of clean cuts and good advice.

The Main Street barbershop is offering free haircuts to students and families in the area, making the back-to-school prep a little easier.

Mobar Cuts owner Coco Fernandez and his crew said he want kids to feel ready for the upcoming school year.

“If you’re going to school and you don’t have a haircut, sometimes you can get made fun of,” Fernandez said. “We want our youth to feel really confident and comfortable when going in to their first day.”

Advice comes with every haircut, too. Fernandez said he grew up in Waltham, too, and is looking to set a good example.

“I really want the kids to feel my connection with them and the similarities between what we’ve gone through and what I’m going through and things that they might have to go through,” Fernandez said. “I’m really there for them.”

Along with local kids, Fernandez has had his fair share of clients. On his Instagram, he’s posted about giving fresh cuts to Celtics players Jayson Tatum, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard, along with rappers Gunna and NLE Choppa.

“A message every single time is that, it doesn’t matter where you are, it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, just focus on being a great person and paying forward everything that you’ve got, and at some point you can do anything you put your mind to,” Fernandez said.
