ARLINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Arlington, Mass. residents have to watch their steps as illegal traps have been found around the town.
Police are searching for those responsible for setting fox traps, which were outlawed in the Commonwealth in 1975. Even though residents have seen foxes from time to time, they have never had a problem that would warrant setting the illegal traps.
Residents have reported seeing some foxes dragging the traps around town. At one recent sighting, quick-acting neighbors contained a fox in their yard before calling animal control.
“It just breaks my heart to think about an animal being caught and it’s so cruel,” said one concerned resident.
Some residents are worried about young children who offer to rake town lawns for extra money. Others are scared to take their dogs on a walk.
“I’ll be on alert the next time I go out there because we do frequently go off trail,” said Gloria of Arlington, who has two dogs.
Contact Arlington Police if you stumble upon one of the traps.
