WATERTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — People visiting many of the parks and sports fields in Watertown may notice a few new life-saving additions.

The bright yellow automated external defibrillators with red lettering have been installed in at least seven locations around the town. Arsenal Park has three AEDs installed in different sections of the park. Alessandra says it makes her feel a little safer to see the boxes installed.

"We walk the park every morning on the way back and forth from daycare and we walk past at least two of them," Alessandra said. "It gives us the opportunity to provide care on the spot if people are experiencing something."

The additions were made possible through the city's capital improvement project. Residents like Ana say they understand firsthand how fast a medical emergency can come on, especially in sports.

"Our younger son played soccer here all growing up and he had a history of asthma and one time he had a asthma attack on the field and took a knee and kids can unfortunately, as healthy as they are, have a medical emergency. So it's nice to have that available."

The AEDs can also be found at Casey Park, Victory Field, Moxley Park, Hosmer Softball Fields, Filipello Park and Saltonstall Field.

Additional locations will be added next year.
