WATERTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Margarita Avetian is proof that you are never too old to follow your dreams.

The 87-year-old Watertown grandmother recently held her first art exhibit at the Watertown Free Public Library for the many flower paintings that adorn her home.

"Her paintings, what I love, speak to any age," Avetian's daughter Seda Matevosian told WBZ NewsRadio Tuesday.

While Avetian has a passion for painting, she has no formal art training, and did not actually start picking up a brush until a few years ago. Matevosian explained it was because she was so busy raising her six children.

"Never stop dreaming, never stop believing you can do whatever you wish," Matevosian said.

Proceeds from Avetian's exhibit will go to solders in her native country of Armenia.

"She says she believes that beauty has to safeguard the world," said Matevosian.
