(WBZ NewsRadio) — Watertown Animal Control (WAC) is warning residents about a raccoon that attacked a woman in the city.
On Saturday, Nov. 29, a raccoon had been seen “acting aggressively” in the area of 140 Arsenal Street, right outside Union Market Apartments.
The Watertown Police Department said the animal first lunged at a woman before biting her pants. She was able to kick the raccoon off and avoid any injuries.
Several residents had been discussing the raccoon and their concerns that it may be rabid before the attack occurred.
“It wasn’t afraid of people, so I’m not surprised,” said Mark, a resident of the complex.
He didn’t witness the attack but coincidentally had taken a picture of a raccoon near his apartment unit recently. It’s not known if it’s the same involved in the incident.
The raccoon attack is a reminder for Mark and his dog that nature is never that far away.
“I think the dog is big enough that I’m not too worried about it, unless it’s rabid or something, but being in the city, you don’t really think about this,” he said.
Anyone who sees a raccoon acting aggressively is asked to contact WAC or the Watertown Police Department.
