WATERTOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A free local resource is back in Watertown.
The Swap Shop at the Watertown Recycle Center has returned after a brief hiatus due to Republic Service's boycott. Open the first Saturday of each month from April through October, residents were able to squeeze one last swap session in before the shop closes for the winter months. Some residents say they are looking forward to participating next year.
"It's good for people who, you know, with young families who are building up their houses. Good for people like myself or, you know, empty nesters to give things to our neighbors for free," one local stated.

The volunteer led sustainability initiative encourages residents to practice recycle and reuse efforts in the area while also connecting communities for a greater purpose.
"We like the idea of like sustainability, like swapping things and sharing resources," a resident said.
While some usually head to their local thrift store to off load their clutter, others like Joan prefer the idea of freely sharing with her neighbors.
"Great idea, especially for children's things. You know, there's a lot of plastic items like you have here that, you know, parents have to go out and pay full price. That costs them a lot," Joan said. "If we can recycle it after, you know, one group, one family is done, that would be great."
