WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Wins Four Regional Murrow Awards

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — WBZ NewsRadio 1030 has taken home four 2023 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards. The station won in the Breaking News Coverage, Excellence in Innovation, Best Newscast, and Excellence in Sound categories.

  • Breaking News Coverage, for station coverage of the deadly November 2022 Apple Store crash. WBZ NewsRadio spoke to eyewitnesses, reported on the extent of injuries victims suffered, relayed road closures and backups on the nearby Route 3, and shared details on the sole fatal victim and suspect charged in the incident.
  • Excellence in Innovation, for WBZ NewsRadio's pathbreaking TikTok account. The station started its TikTok account two years ago, and in that time the account has grown the account to more than 125,000 followers.
  • Best Newscast, for 8 a.m. morning coverage of the 126th Boston Marathon and other news of the day.
  • Excellence in Sound, for masterful sound design in "Traffic Cone Saxophone," a report from WBZ's Matt Shearer on a man who went viral for his unique modifications of an ordinary traffic cone.

It's the third year in a row the station won a Regional Murrow Award for Best Newscast, and the second year in a row it won a Breaking News Regional Murrow Award. The wins put WBZ NewsRadio 1030 under consideration for a National Murrow Award, which it won in the Breaking News category last year.
