BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Good news for all T enthusiasts: weekend rail service is back for all Commuter Rail lines.

The service returned on Saturday to the Fitchburg, Franklin, Greenbush, Haverhill, Kingston, Lowell, and Needham lines. Saturday and Sunday service is identical across all lines.

It comes after rail service was cut down because of low ridership levels during the Covid-19 pandemic. The agency and it's partner Keolis said that ridership on weekends has now recovered to more than 50% of pre-pandemic levels.

"New schedules will represent an increase in the overall number of weekend trains operating with new, earlier options that match the needs of shift workers like essential employees in the healthcare industry," the MBTA said in a statement.

Passengers can visit the MBTA website to see the most updated schedules for those lines.
