LOWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A music and arts festival is taking over the city of Lowell this weekend, stretching into downtown theaters, bars, cafes, and galleries to showcase dozens of artists spanning different genres and crafts.
On Friday April 28 and Saturday April 29, festival goers will be treated to all types of music including but not limited to hip-hop, indie rock, folk, and bluegrass in mostly small venues that also happen to be small businesses.
"They could be little small coffee cafes to 350 cap rock n roll room, so all the venues are relatively intimate," said festival founder Chris Porter, who grew up in Lowell himself. Porter says he's proud of his city, and wants to make The Town and the City Festival something to remember Lowell by.
"Years ago I used to hear a lot of negative talk about Lowell, I'm pleased to say I don't hear that nearly as much anymore. I want to showcase Lowell in a positive light as I think it deserves— there's a big growing creative community here," Porter said.

On the setlist, Alisa Amador and Rhett Miller kick it off Friday night at the Overlook at Mill No. 5. Also on tap for the weekend is Buffalo Tom, Ted Leo, and Vapors of Morphine, you can find out more about performance times and the artists and bands taking the stage here.
