WELLESLEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Wellesley Health Department has cleared the food shelves at a CVS on Linden Street because of some unwanted visitors.

A mice infestation has left the store, known for its seasonal candy and snacks, practically bare of them. While the store is still open, shelves are instead covered with signs stating that they are unable to sell food products at this time, and refrigerators are locked shut with zip ties.

With such an abrupt end to food sales, customers are both confused and surprised at the change.

“It’s concerning obviously,” a Wellesley woman told WBZ NewsRadio. “Because something is not right, somebody is not taking care of what they should do.”

“I’m really shocked, because I’ve never seen anything like that in there,” another Wellesley resident told WBZ NewsRadio.

Orkin Pest Control trucks were spotted outside the store Thursday morning to fix the issue.

Leonard Izzo, the Director of Wellesley Health Department, said in a statement:

Wellesley Health Department inspectors are continuing to work with the CVS on Linden Street to correct a pest control issue involving mice. CVS has temporarily discontinued food sales, increased pest control services, and thoroughly cleaned all impacted fixtures and surfaces. The store has been extremely cooperative and is working diligently to correct this situation. Health inspectors are in regular communication with CVS management and expect this situation to be quickly resolved. Out of caution, inspectors also visited the Wellesley Roche Bros. location next to CVS, performed spot checks, and found no pest control issues at that store. (Izzo)
