WELLESLEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Nehoiden Golf Club's new lightning alarm sounded like a World War II air raid siren as it let out a test ring over the greens on Tuesday.
An employee at the course in Wellesley told WBZ NewsRadio's Chaiel Schaffel the alarm alerts golfers when lightning strikes nearby.
"When lightning comes through, it comes by quick," he said. "So we don't want anyone getting injured and hit."
The siren automatically sounds when lightning strikes within 10 miles of the course.

Lightning struck and killed 10 golfers in the United States between 2006 and 2019, according to the National Weather Service.
The Professional Golfers' Association of America warns against the dangers of lightning.
"Lightning and golf do not mix," the PGA says. "Taking a chance and hitting a few more shots or going one more hole could prove deadly."
