West Island, Fairhaven Shooting Leaves One Dead

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A call that came in as a domestic involving a firearm, ended with one dead in West Island, Fairhaven at 7:14 p.m. Saturday night.

According to Fairhaven Police, the original caller, who officials say could be the victim's wife, told police that a man shot himself near Cottonwood Street. Police said that the incident may have happened in an adjacent garage, and that officials blocked off access to Goulart Memorial Drive until it was determined to be confined to the reported address.

The scene was cleared by police a few hours later, officials said.

Fairhaven Police released police audio of the incident, saying that it may be sensitive to some listeners. On the audio, police say the caller wanted to stay with the victim and did not want to leave to secure the firearm.
