BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As the world watches the Olympic Games in Tokyo, a unique gym in West Roxbury is preparing its athletes for games of their own.
Inclusive Fitness specializes in helping the neuro-divergent exercise. Shayna Harper, a coach at the gym, said the gym is training athletes for the Special Olympics Massachusetts.
"We have some that are in bocce, softball, basketball, soccer, golf, and gymnastics," she said.
It's the only gym in the area that specifically trains the Special Olympians, and Harper said they're a cut above.
"They have a propensity towards progress...They are the first ones to ask for a modification in progressing an exercise or making it harder," she said.
Harper said her work with the athletes also comes with great fulfillment.
"There's just...an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I don't think I've ever been thanked more for my work than by this population." she said.
