WESTWOOD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A local pizza shop in Westwood is asking for donations to get a worker back on their feet after he was hit by a car.

Maria Tassiopoulos owns Islington Pizza, and said Kevin Torres was returning from break and crossing Washington Street when he was hit by a car about two weeks ago. The damage was severe, and Torres needed to be airlifted to a local hospital.

"He has a bump on his head that required stitches, a broken nose, a big gash on his leg, and the most serious one is his pelvic bone," said Tassiopoulos. He's finding out if he needs pelvis surgery on Wednesday.

Insurance won't cover all of the expenses, so it has left Torres — who has a two year old son and wife — needing to pay the remainder out of pocket.

To help, a GoFundMe has been set up to help Torres with his costs.

"It will help him with his rent...it will help him with his everyday bills, that way he doesn't have to rush to try to come back," Tassiopoulos said.

The fund has collected about $8,500 of its $10,000 goal so far.
