WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Weymouth High School’s cafeteria turned into a thrift store Saturday with everything marked as free.
Dozens of bags filled with everything from clothing to sports equipment were donated to the bi-annual Weymouth Clothing Giveaway.
“It is anything from kids and babies clothing all the way up to adult clothing,” Mary Stefaney, teacher and volunteer, told WBZ NewsRadio. “We will take anything that is in good, usable condition.”
Local mothers started the event about a decade ago. Their original goal was to get rid of unwanted clothes, but the event has since transformed to involve the entire community..
“It’s nice to be able to see people not have to stress out just come in here and take whatever they need without prices [because] I feel like a lot of people need that right now,” one student volunteer said.
“I work in retail so I know how expensive it is,” another volunteer added. “There are so many nice clothes that come in.”
Stefaney said the Weymouth Public School district works with a textile company to donate any clothes that did not make it onto the store's shelves.
The next clothing giveaway will take place in the fall.
