WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Dog lovers will be able to walk their furry ones on the public beaches in Weymouth thanks to a new pilot program.
On Monday, Oct. 6, Mayor Michael Molisse issued an executive order that allows leashed dogs to roam around George Lane and Wessagusset beaches starting Nov. 1. Some residents are looking forward to walking their pets along the beach.
"They should be on the beach. They deserve to be as much as we do," one resident said.

"It's a free area. Why can't the animals be out here enjoying life too," another resident remarked.
The program will allow dog owners to walk their pets on the beach while leashed at all times. Owners must also have their rabies vaccination documentation and current license on hand. Dog owners must also properly remove and dispose of their pet's waste.
"I mean, as long as there's responsible humans out here that pick up after them, there shouldn't be a problem," one local said.
The pilot program ends on April 15. The town will then decide if they want to make the change permanent.
