BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — There are a lot of factors to consider when it comes to getting an apartment in Boston.
Demetrios Salpoglou, CEO of Boston Pads, said it’s nearly time to start looking for those apartments with a Sept. 1 move-in date.
“April is when you get a ton of availability, so it’s coming right now and we’ll see a lot of that in the next three weeks,” Salpoglou said.
Depending on what you’re looking for, Salpoglou said timing is everything.
“You can wait but you might miss the best apartment. By the same token if you get into August you might find a great deal, but it might not be the perfect apartment that you want,” Salpoglou said.
While inflation remains high, Salpoglou said he doesn’t actually expect average rent in Boston to go up by much this year.
“I think we're shaking up to be somewhat similar to last year, I don’t think we'll see huge increases in rent,” Salpoglou said.
The current average rent in Boston ranges from $2,300 for a studio and $4,862 for a four bedroom, according to Boston Pads. That’s around 1.38% higher than last year.
Salpoglou said there are a few things you can do to ensure a better price.
“If you have a strong group, you have a better chance of negotiating great terms. The earlier you start in your search the better chance you have of negotiating terms,” Salpoglou said.
You’ll also want to keep your eye on changing prices, Salpoglou said.
“So let's say you see a landlord that just dropped a price, you probably want to jump on that one real quick cuz that’s getting noticed very fast.”
