BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Wheelhouse Diner has been a staple in Quincy for about 75 years, but they might be serving their last meal after being served an eviction notice.

Wheelhouse Diner owner LeeAnn Vieira McDonough said she is fighting back against the new property owners.

“I’m not giving up easy because I don’t give up easy on anything,” said McDonough. "I don’t cry. I’ve cried more in the last three months than I have probably in years.”

Hancock Realty Trust purchased the property and plans to tear down the building and replace it with a bigger building. They also said they still plan to have a diner, just not Wheelhouse Diner.

“I’ve had this place for 12 years and you’re going to come up with a bunch of lies and say that I’m not paying rent and you’re just going to kick me out and reopen it?” said McDonough.

Hancock Realty Trust said they have had a number of ongoing issues with McDonough. Since her contract was at will, they decided to terminate it.

Local residents have rallied behind the diner, hoping they will stay in business.

“It’s a small oasis in a fastly growing city,” said one customer who has been going to the diner since 1974. “The food’s always been stellar.”

“It’s the only place where you can get a good meal that your family made,” said another happy customer. “It’s like ‘Cheers,’ everyone knows your name.”
