TAUNTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — If you’ve ever had pizza on the South Shore, you know it tastes unlike the pizza from anywhere else

But now the bar pizza phenomenon is outgrowing the South Shore.

Todd Mead grew up in Raynham, but now lives in Colorado, where most of his neighbors have never experienced the way we do pizza south of Boston. He's spent the last year trying to perfect the recipe in preparation for his new food truck, "MASSively wHOLEhearted Pizza."

"I didn't realize it was a regional thing," he said. "I was like, 'how good is my pizza, really?'"

Mead hosted a blind taste test of ten local spots, including his own, to try to achieve the heights of pizza perfection. The competition took place in the conference room of a local fishing supply company owned by a lifelong friend.

He pitted his pie against local legends like Town Spa, and came in 5th.

Rankings:

Mead only ranked the top five, so no one's business would be hurt, and the rankings were out of 10. Spots were chosen for local notability and proximity to Raynham.

1. Stoughton Town Spa 7.73

2. Smitty's Pub 7.61

3. Lynwood Cafe 7.19

4. Cape Cod Cafe 6.81

5. Massively Wholehearted Pizza 6.58

Honorable mentions, in no particular order, were Emma's, O'Toole's, Pizza Tyme, J's Flying Pizza, and Charlie's.

Mead is currently raising money to get the business off the ground.
