SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Whole Foods employee in Swampscott has died of coronavirus, the company confirmed on Friday.
“Whole Foods Market is mourning the loss of a member of our community who passed away on April 15, 2020 due to COVID-19," a spokesperson said in a statement. "Our hearts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and with his fellow Team Members at our Swampscott, Massachusetts store."
The company also said it is offering "counseling support" to its team members mourning the loss of their co-worker.
In an effort to prevent the spread of the virus, grocery stores have been ordered to only allow 40 percent capacity inside the building. Grocery store employees are now also included in the list of essential workers who can access drive-thru testing sites in Foxborough and West Springfield.
This follows the coronavirus-related death of a grocery store employee at the Market Basket in Salem, Mass. on April 7.
