DRACUT, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Wilmington Police Department hosted its second annual Charity Golf Classic on Monday, raising money for children with cancer.
The sold-out tournament at Four Oaks Country Club brought over 140 golfers and raised over $10,000.
Most of that money will go to the local nonprofit Cops for Kids with Cancer.
“I personally watched them donate to multiple families and its made a huge difference in their quality of life and the families’ ability to financially provide,” said Wilmington Fire Chief Bill Cavanaugh. “It definitely takes a little bit of stress off for that family that’s going through a really tough time.”
One of the golfers who participated said the event was a win-win.
“[I’m] thrilled to do it and donate what I can to help kids. It’s a great day,” said golfer Kyle Strain.
The team entry fee for the tournament was $600, and it cost $150 to sponsor a hole.
Detective Darrell Ceruolo says the money raised will also go toward scholarships for Wilmington high seniors that are going to college and will help feed people at the Wilmington Housing Authority on Thanksgiving.
