WINCHESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The MWRA is warning residents in and around Winchester that a water main break could be sending discolored water into their taps.

Contractors doing work on the old 48-inch water main in the woods off Forest Street accidentally punctured it Friday.

The agency said they've been able to re-route water and are starting repairs.

Residents in several communities, including Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, Woburn, and Wilmington, could see reduced water pressure, they warned. They could also see discolored water for a time, and are asked to wait for it to clear before using it.

Repairs are underway, but the MWRA said they could take a few days.
