BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The National Weather Service (NWS) has switched the outlook of the first nor'easter of 2024 from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning for most of the Commonwealth.

The Winter Storm Warning will be in place from 4:00 P.M. on Saturday until 1:00 A.M. on Monday for northern, central and western Mass. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in place at the same time for southeastern Mass. A Wind Advisory will be in place for the Cape and Islands, with potential gusts up to 50 mph.

Boston is expected to get between 6 to 8 inches of snow. Communities west and north of the city are projected to receive 8 to 12 inches of snow.

The NWS also predicts that most of the South Shore will stay in the 1 to 2 inches range, as snow mixes in with rain. The Cape and Islands are projected to receive mostly rain, but towns near the bridges could see around an inch of snow.

The NWS is also warning of a flash freeze on Sunday for eastern Mass., including Boston.
