NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —The Middlesex County DA's Office says a woman has been arrested on murder charges in the Newton death of her former landlord.

Middlesex DA Marian Ryan says Xiu Fang Ke was arrested on Wednesday in the killing of 65-year-old Leonard Garber. Police started investigating the case on Monday after police got concerned phone calls from family and friends.

Police found Garber's body yesterday, wrapped in a curtain and hidden under construction materials in the front hall of his Newton house on Mt. Vernon Terrace.

The DA's office said the woman had been allegedly forging checks from a joint account with Garber, for a total of more than $40,000. The preliminary investigation found that Garber had learned of the fake checks, and confronted Ke about it, who then allegedly killed him.

The DA said the body was hidden, and had been there for more than a day. Ke is set to be arraigned on Wednesday.
