Woman Fighting For Life After Being Struck By Falling Debris In Boston

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by falling metal debris in Boston.

Boston Police said the accident happened on 84 Atlantic Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Thursday. She suffered life-threatening injuries.

It appeared that a crane knocked over a large metal railing from the top of the building, which fell and struck the woman.

Witnesses told WBZ NewsRadio's Kendall Buhl that those nearby rushed to the woman's aid, some running across the street to gather towels which they used to try to stem the bleeding until first responders arrived.

They said she had been walking with her husband, who called 911 after.

"It just hit her right on top of the head," said one witness. "She went down, and did not move after that."

Boston Inspectional Services Commissioner Dion Irish said the roofing company involved is cooperating in the investigation. The department is looking into permits and work practices.
