Women’s History Month: Grammys To Team Up With Berklee and ASU

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In light of March being Women’s History Month, the Recording Academy is partnering with Berklee College of Music and Arizona State University to conduct a study on women in the music industry.

On March 8, for GRAMMY Week 2021, the academy is hosting "Women In The Mix" which will highlight women who are working in music.

According to a USC Annenberg study, women only make up 2% of music producers and engineers.

The organization said that there is a lack of female creators who are acknowledged at the annual Grammy Awards and that this study “will be utilized to develop and empower the next generation of women music creators.”

The Academy revealed that of the 853 nominees across all 84 categories at this year’s show, 198 — 23% — identify as women.

They have also pledged to double the number of female voters by 2025 to improve female representation in the music business.

The study with Berklee College of Music and ASU is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2022.
