Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard. (Worcester Fire Department)
WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An official fund has been set up to aid the family of fallen Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard, who was killed in a four-alarm blaze last week.
Donations are being accepted through the Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts at PFFMFoundation.org, and 100 percent of them will go to the Menard family.
Donations can also be mailed to the Worcester Fire Department Credit Union, made payable to: PFFM Foundation care of The Menard Children's Fund.
Lt. Menard died after he was trapped by flames on the third floor of a burning Stockholm Street house. He and his fellow firefighters were reportedly searching for trapped residents, including a baby; fire officials said he died saving two other firefighters' lives.
The tragic loss comes almost 20 years after the deadly cold storage fire in Worcester that left six firefighters dead. The department lost Firefighter John Davies in December 2011, and Firefighter Christopher Roy just one year ago this December.
