Worcester Police In Standoff With Man Accused Of Shooting 2 Family Members

WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Police are engaged in an armed standoff with a man accused of shooting two family members inside a Worcester home on Friday morning.

Worcester police said officers were dispatched to a home on Colby Avenue shortly before 8:40 a.m. for a domestic incident involving a 24-year-old suspect who shot and wounded two of his family members.

The victims, a male and a female, were taken to area hospitals for treatment, police said. There is no immediate word on their condition.

According to Worcester Police Lt. Sean Murtha, when officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he opened fire on them and ran back into the house. The officers were not hit.

The Worcester Police Hostage Negotiation Team is on-scene with drone operators and a mental health clinician. They are attempting to speak to the suspect to bring the standoff to a peaceful resolution.

Police are asking everyone to avoid the area.
